Featured Vendor - Stone Harvest

I'm kelly nicholson, founder of Stone Harvest, a line of handmade jewelry, & objets d'art, participating for the first time in the Trenton Ave Art Festival. This is a new venture for me, after being an artist/teacher for years, my work driven by my concern for the environment, I've now expanded into creating jewelry inspired by nature, and made from found objects and antique photographs.

My interest in jewelry began on the shores of the Pacific, in West Marin, California in 2009. Living a hair’s breath from the ocean, i spent hours there every day combing the beaches for treasures delivered from sea. Tiny agate stones, shells, bones, feathers and wood collected in box after box in my studio until a day when someone asked me if I’d like to participate in an artisan bazaar in town. I thought of my earth and sea treasures and agreed~ and STONE HARVEST was born. I began making small agate stud earrings and simple shell and polymer clay necklaces. Now, after dedicating time to learning the art of fine metal-smithing, I’m making one of a kind pieces that can stand the test of time ~ using brass and copper along with stones, bone and shell that are hand-harvested to create wearable memories of long walks on the beach ~ in the forest ~ and by the wind.

I am also currently working on a line of jewelry based on a series of paintings on antique photographs. I imbed images on pendants and pins to be worn, like cameos & lockets, they have a history and story that is told through their face, clothing & body language. I think of them as imaginary ancestors from another dimension.
