IMAGO ARTS: Dedicated to offering hope, healing and unity through the arts.
An
emerging music and arts studio centered in the Port Richmond section of
Philadelphia, IMAGO ARTS is centered on the theme of finding and
revealing beauty woven in the broken and ordinary experiences of life.
Photography, music, poetry, as well as stained glass mosaics made from
broken glass and other locally collected materials seek to beautify the
local environment while connecting these themes with images from the
local community.
All
materials ( scrap metal, nails, window glass, bottles and other
materials are collected locally, cleaned and transformed into stained
glass panels, candles and sculptural work. Photography, print and card
collections focus mainly on urban cityscapes, abandoned lots and urban
gardens. Performances include voice and violoncello.
Current exhibit "Beauty from Brokenness" is the fruit of an encounter with the heart of a place, the stamina, resilience an beauty of people from all faiths, backgrounds and experiences burdened by ordinary trials and extraordinary sufferings. Particular inspiration has developed through the artist's personal encounter with those who suffer the trials of generational poverty in her years as an Americorps volunteer and elementary and middle-school art and music teacher in the city. Though influenced highly by her own spiritual tradition and experience, the artist recognizes and strives to present much broader and more universal themes, affirming the beauty and dignity of all people.
IMAGO ARTS seeks to offer
concrete images of hope and resilience arising from brokenness, to
reawaken a sense of the importance of the arts in expression of the
dignity and potential of all people, and to foster it's importance and
connection to local everyday life.
