My business, pleasebikethanks (www.pleasebikethanks.etsy.com), is creating jewelry from retired rubber bike tubes. I am a papercutting artist, and transfer those techniques, by Xacto knife, onto the black rubber from flat tubes. I love all the possibilities of the material, and it makes my heart kind of warm + fuzzy when I get to create something beautiful from some rubber that would've otherwise been hanging out in a landfill for a long time.
P.S. If you have flat bike tubes lying around at home, bring one by my booth at TAAF, and I will make you a simple piece for free, in gratitude. - Maggie
